The globally selected Tsinghua Amgen Scholars will gain access to the laboratories of Tsinghua University. Under the guidance of senior professors, senior doctoral students, and volunteer mentors, they will participate in cutting-edge research projects in biomedicine, covering fields such as genetic engineering, cancer immunotherapy, and the interdisciplinary application of artificial intelligence and bioinformatics. Through one-on-one mentoring and hands-on laboratory work, the scholars will accumulate experimental experience and master scientific research thinking and methodologies. Furthermore, the program regularly organize interdisciplinary lectures, inviting professors from different departments of Tsinghua University to share frontier knowledge. Meanwhile, we arrange visits to top-tier domestic new R&D institutions for on-site learning and exchanges, expanding the scholars’ academic horizons. At the conclusion of the program, each cohort of Tsinghua Amgen Scholars will travel to the Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium—co-hosted by National University of Singapore, The University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Tsinghua University—to deliver their final research presentations and participate in the academic poster competition, bringing their Amgen research journey to a successful close.
The program encourages scholars to actively participate in on-campus cultural activities, fostering cross-cultural interaction and exchange between international students and students of Tsinghua . Beyond the campus, the program has organized visits to iconic sites and venues such as the Mutianyu Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, Jingshan Park, National Museum of China, Imperial College (Guozijian), Wudaoying Hutong, and The Chinese Traditional Culture Museum. These activities allow scholars to experience the profoundness of Chinese history and culture as well as the authentic lifestyle of old Beijing. Additionally, scholars take part in hands-on experiences like creating intangible cultural heritage artworks, which helps them gain a deeper understanding of the charm and humanistic spirit of Chinese traditional culture.
The annual Asian Symposium, co-hosted by four Asian host universities, is a three-day intensive academic exchange event and grand gathering that brings together all Amgen Scholars. It features rich scientific research presentations, poster competitions, and cultural visits to the host universities. Held in early August each year, the symposium coincides with the conclusion of the Amgen Scholars Program at the four Asian universities. Each scholar, armed with substantial achievements, engages in free communication and discussions on this occasion, sparking brilliant ideas with scholars and mentors from different countries. The annual Asian Symposium is the most anticipated part for every Amgen Scholar and puts a perfect finishing touch to each program.
